Delores Lewis Thornton

Recognized for community service during the 9th Annual Joy Awards in 2005, Thornton has been a volunteer mentor with the Marion County Probation Dept., and the Co/Founder/Executive Director of Indianapolis Book Fest, Incorporated. She is currently serving on the Advisory Board of the African American History Committee with the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library. A Board member of the Indy Black Chamber of Commerce, she is also a Committee Member of CIC (Center for Interfaith Cooperation), and President of EU (Everything Underground) Book Club. Black Voices from the Past Part III is Thornton’s third skit. She has also published 7 books (of her own); 2 books of Indy area pastors; and 4 plays. A 1999 graduate of the Long Ridge Writers Group of West Redding, Connecticut, she also took classes through the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, graduating on June 16, 2010, and is now eligible to teach in the COPP Program! A licensed and ordained Baptist minister, Thornton is a proud graduate (BA) of Simmons Bible College of Kentucky (HBCU) where she was Valedictorian. She also received a Master’s of Theology from Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis. Thornton is also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Celestial Star #61.
