Candice Price Wayne Hubbard Urban Kids Fish

Candace Price and Wayne Hubbard have dedicated their life to refuting the notion that enjoying nature and the outdoors is or should be restricted to whites. Both reject the myth that “Blacks don’t hunt or fish,” The duo have been married since the early 2000s, and have worked to encourage and involve more African Americans in fishing, hunting, camping and hiking. The center piece of their efforts is the television show “Urban American Outdoors.” It was and remains one of the first in the nation owned and produced by a female African-American, hosted by an African-American outdoorsman, featuring guests and content from African-American contributors. The show started on the Urban Television Network, but later got local distribution in Kansas City and on Time-Warner Cable via Metro Sports. The show’s success led them to establish a kids fishing derby. That has expanded into a nationwide effort, with other derbies held in Atlanta, on the Washington, D.C. Mall, and in other cities like Ferguson, Mo., Los Angles, Philadelphia, and Portland. The Urban American Outdoors television show has won more than 50 awards and four Emmy nominations. Both Hubbard and Price have been named to prestigious national advisory boards. The show is now seen nationally on Bounce TV, Spectrum, Comcast and other affiliates. The couple’s initial goal of debunking stereotypes about Blacks and outdoor activities has long since been met, but they continue in their campaign to bring diversity and inclusion to the worlds of fishing, hunting, hiking and camping.
